First off, why is so damn hot?! I am pretty much melting over here in the east bay and I've lived in higher temps before. Oh wait, I forgot its because I'm 8 months pregnant and pretty much EVERYTHING is more annoying these days.
In between fanning myself and blasting the AC, I am somehow managing to waddle around and check progress on a few projects that are wrapping up before baby arrives. Well that's the plan anyhow. Crossing my fingers that I am not staging a house or checking job sites when my water breaks...ha ha, but really.
Project Parklane's Master bathroom is just wrapping up today and its is GORGEOUS!! Were waiting on our custom shower doors and those should be in and installed before the end of the month. No sneak peeks just yet! I'll show the final photos once its all complete.
Project OakKnoll is smooth sailing and the guest room might just be finished before the final touches on the living room arrive. Our custom Sofa from Cisco just delivered last week and the order was placed in March, talk about a piece worth waiting for! Both rooms are coming together nicely and I cannot wait to share the pictures. Once the pictures are in it really feels like the job is complete and the check boxed is marked!
Over in downtown Martinez, our CarquinezFlip is getting ready to go on the market next weekend! This is huge for the homeowners because they have been working overtime on getting this property ready for sale. Staging goes in next week and pictures will surely follow!
In other news, our cabin is plugging along faster than ever because now myself and my husband have control back. We didn't have the most pleasant experience with our contractor that we hired up there. Long story short, he basically took on larger projects that would make him more profit while letting our smaller job sit....for about 6+ months. The size of our job should have been completed in 2 months top. It was very disappointing, but we learned. I have yet to encounter that on a job with any of my clients in the bayarea- I am thankful for that and I hope I never have too. There is always a take away from every experience, so since I lived through the bad experience I can be an even stronger advocate for my clients and catch red flags ahead of time.
In all honestly, this property has fought us hard from the beginning and it continues to be a struggle at the stage its in currently. Over the 4th of July holiday my husband and father in law installed our long awaited kitchen cabinets. We had to intercept the delivery in Lathrop because they were not going to arrive on time and we would have missed our window to install. Mind you, this is the second delivery I am referring to because the first delivery was on time, but damaged. Are we having fun yet??
So then we get the cabinets and some are damaged and we find out that we are missing one wall cabinet. No biggie right? Because compared to everything prior, this its minor. Now I am talking myself into the fact that damaged cabinets and missing pieces is minor which is completely unacceptable. I had to cool my jets on this one unless I wanted to spin myself into pre-term labor...deep breaths.
Oh there's more....
Our floors needed to be leveled prior to installing any new cabinets or flooring and that was completed by our genius contractor. The leveling compound not only added weight to the top floor that is already settling, but it also built up the floor a few inches. So those 96" pantry cabinets that go up to the ceiling no longer fit along with all of our existing interior/exterior doors. The ceiling, along with all the walls are also not level so it was a real treat watching my husband and father in law tackle this project. I think we all secretly wanted to light a match and walk away.
The great news is.... THEY ARE IN!!!
With all the grief comes some sort of closure and now we can move on to flooring & counter tops. There will be struggles with the rest of the project, I would bet money on it. I am hoping to put my feet up and deal with it while drinking a glass of wine come September!
For just one minute, I have to give my husband a HUGE shout out. He is one of the most hardworking individuals that I know and that's something I love dearly about him. He pulls triple duty with family time, work and outside projects non-stop. There are no breaks in this household lately and he handles it well. This project wouldn't be possible without him because lets be real, I'm not installing cabinets like a boss:)
And to my father in law, Chuck. Thank you for painting the ceiling when I know you didn't want to and thank for for only be mad about it for a short while. Without the love and support of our family we wouldn't be able to make this all happen.
