Bathroom Suites
Awhile back I posted a picture of these beautiful bathroom suites showing the tub incorporated into the actual shower design. This is a trend I am seeing everywhere on design pages and Pinterest, but wondering if its here to stay or if its just a fad that will quickly be on its way out. I asked for feedback on my Instagram page and was happy to hear some of the mixed reviews. Today, I am will be discussing the design trend, pros and cons and whether or not I would recommend this type of layout to my own clients.
When I opened Pinterest this morning this popped up on my feed, so its totally happening unless all these photos are just model homes! I believe that sometimes, practicality and function tend to be on the latter part of design. If it looks good then it should work fine right? And it just looks good so were good right?? I beg to differ.

I am a realist, what looks good doesn't always work well and when your job is done, someone has to use that space EVERY day. Can you all tell I don't like this trend yet?!...LOL. I am trying and I am not going to argue that it is not beautiful, but I just don't see the rational behind it.
Here's the Pro's and Con's of it:
Who doesn't like lists?!
PROS:
-SPACE SAVER, you can incorporated two necessary items to complete a bathroom suite into one space. 2 IN 1 whoot, whoot!
-DESIGN ELEMENT, is new, its interesting so therefore people gravitate towards being trend followers.
-ITS DIFFERENT, you all know that one person who likes to do everything different, well here's a pro for them. If they even want one!
-COMBINED PLUMBING, if you are working with an existing layout this could potentially save you money on moving plumbing. Hence, your tub being on the opposite side of the room from the shower.
-SPA LIKE FEEL, you've seen it in a commercial SPA and you loved it. why not bring the spa to your own home?!
CONS:
EVERYTHING GETS WET, you didn't want to take a bath, but the tub now has water in it anyway. Or its dewy from all the steam from your shower, etc. You got a little shampoo in the tub too because you were trying to wash your hair out- no biggie!
SCHEDULING, you want to take a nice relaxing bath. Your husband needs to shower and get to work ASAP. Looks like your bath is gonna have to wait.
CLEANING, looks like this layout will need to be wiped down after every shower. No one like mold in their tub!
YOU JUST WANTED TO SHOWER, unless you have a high powered fan you better schedule some more time into your shower routine.
ITS TOO PRETTY, its so pretty that all of the above just sounds like A LOT of work so I am just gonna use the half bath down the hall.
I could go on and on with Pro's and Con's but really it just comes down to if you like it and if you want it. Done and Done. My job is to educate and guide clients in the right direction and the majority of the time my clients follow my lead. In my professional opinion, I would steer clear of this design layout. Again, its beautiful and oh so nice to look at, but the practicality and function is lacking for me and I tend to shape my designs around those two very important things!
I'd love to hear your feedback and maybe you have this layout and couldn't be happier! I d love to hear it! Message me on Instagram of comment here.
Happy Designing!

Ash
